About the Drawing:
‘Toward’s Light’ is a light reactive drawing which can be viewed in natural white light or as a mesmerising piece that moves and changes under RGB lights.
This piece sat in my brain for about 2 years before I was truly ready to commit pencil to paper and make it materialise. I wanted to capture metamorphosis – the process of a moth or butterfly transforming from caterpillar, to pupa, to their final form. However, no matter the layout or composition I tried, something never quite fitted on the page or resonated with the layers and overall effect I wanted to create.
Eventually, I decided to draw the opening of this beautiful moths wings. Now, it is one of my favourites because the work still holds that meaning of transformation, growth, flight and change, but in a way that works in natural daylight too.
