About the Drawing:
‘Iridesce’ is a light reactive painting which can be viewed in natural white light or as a mesmerising piece that moves and changes under RGB lights.
The original idea came from exploring textures that refract light, and to capture the way colours bounce of certain surfaces. At the exact moment I was pondering this new direction, a small beetle landed on me, and the iridescent wings felt like a sign to make him (or her!) the subject of my next drawing.
It also has a more personal meaning – the idea of transmuting energy and external forces into light that bounces off a subject, or person, and into the world. I wanted to explore the term ‘iridescent’ as a verb, and express how that might look or feel to embody.
iridesce: verb. To be iridescent. To shine or display a lustrous, rainbow-like play of colours. To reflect & play with light. To shimmer.
