About the artwork

‘DAISY I’ is a light reactive painting which can be viewed in natural white light or as a mesmerising piece that moves and changes under RGB lights.

This painting was hugely inspired by my natural surroundings in rural North Wales. High up on the hilltops of the Berwyn range, daisies speckle every field. Watching these tiny  flowers bloom every summer captures my imagination and creates a sense of nostalgia. As a child I remember watching these delicate flowers open and close at sunrise and sunset.

The daily awakening of the daisy is a gentle reminder to me that nature moves at its own pace.

Capturing such a small and often overlooked flower felt important to me, as the beauty lies in the small details. This piece is about highlighting the insignificant and observing what is too commonly unnoticed, as a reminder to slow down and stay present. I wanted to depict a mini flower on a mini canvas.

Each layer can be isolated under either red, green or blue light, which slows down and draws attention to the stages at which this flower blooms. Alternatively, this dainty flower’s daily movements can be viewed all at once, in natural, full-spectrum light which emphasises this colourful original.
