About the artwork

‘DAHLIA’ is a light reactive painting which can be viewed in natural white light or as a mesmerising piece that moves and changes under RGB lights.

Watching Dahlias bloom in my garden every spring, I have been inspired to capture the beauty of these multi-layered flowers. The transformation they go through as they bloom is a sight to behold, and once they have opened fully, the intricacy of the petals is mesmerising, and is something that I thought would look great under RGB lights. 

This flower and the transition that it goes through is a reminder of the beauty that can be found in nature. The seasonal blooming of the flower represents the change that is constantly happening around us, and is a reminder to me that nature unfolds in its own time, perfectly.

Each layer can be isolated under either red, green or blue light, which slows down and draws attention to the stages at which this flower blooms. Alternatively, this plant’s movements can be viewed all at once, in natural, full-spectrum light which emphasises this colourful original.
